Victorian Party Registration Update

Victorian Party Registration Update

The Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) has informed me that due to the Nepean District bi-election (caused by the resignation of Sam Groth from the Victorian Parliament), by law, during the time of the writ of election (13/3/26) until the return of this writ i.e. the official election result (23rd of May at the latest), the VEC cannot consider any Party registrations.

The final deadline for Party registration for the November 2026 election is the 31st of July.

The notification can be viewed via the link below:

VEC Notification

There are currently 867 Victorian members. A minimum of 500 members are needed to register as a Party in Victoria. We are obviously well above this minimum.

A complication is that when the Riverina State Group submits its Party registration application, the VEC will post a letter (self addressed return and stamped) to all members asking members to confirm their Party membership, and the VEC will only count as members those that return this letter.

To ensure the minimum amount of members is achieved, it is prudent to have many more than 500 members.

The Riverina State Group will submit its Party registration application as soon as the VEC re-opens for registrations.

An explanation of the benefit of Party registration in the campaign for State formation can be read via the link below:

In the time leading up to the registration application, The Riverina State Group will:

a) Continue to advertise and add as any many members as possible.

b) Continue with preparations for the November election under the assumption that registration has been achieved.

c) Assuming that Federal registration will be achieved soon, use the accompanying credibility to further advertise the need for State formation. A possible complication here is that the Australian Electoral Commission is like the VEC, and not able to consider party registration due to the Federal Farrer bi-election caused by the resignation of Sussan Ley.

Regarding advertising and adding members, if you think an Invitation Event can or should be held in your town or locality, please let me know via return email, or phone 0427 009683, and one will be arranged.
