The Victorian People Should Elect the New Premier
On Saturday the 26th of November 2022, Victorians voted in their State election, with Daniel Andrews as the Labor Party candidate for Premier and Mathew Guy as the Liberal/National Party candidate.
The Premier is the most powerful man, or woman, in the Government of the State.
Daniel Andrews was duly elected.
Daniel Andrews has now resigned, and a new Premier will be appointed by the majority faction of the Parliament, without consulting with, or with the consent of, the Victorian people.
This is not government by Parliament as a representation of the people. This is not what Victorians were led to believe when they voted in November. The new, to be named, Premier is not who they voted for. This is a breach of trust.
The election of the Premier should be enacted by the people of Victoria. If Daniel Andrews, or any other Premier, decides to resign, a new election for the Premier should be held, and the people decide who the new Premier is.
It is self evidently better for the people if the Premier is their subject and servant, and not a plaything of the Parliament. His, or her, election by the people will ensure that he, or she, is this subject and servant.
