Lloyd Polkinghorne from The Koondrook and Barham Bridge consistently writes very accurate and informed articles regarding the Basin Plan and its disastrous effects.

Even begging does not affect the implementation of the Basin Plan. Koondrook & Barham Bridge 30/11/23.

Various journalists from the Deniliquin Pastoral Times also write consistently accurate descriptions of the Basin Plan and its effects.

Country News (Shepparton. 5/12/23) publish a varying quality of articles.

It is surprising that Country News printed the following article. Though it may be reporting the opinion of a South Australian academic – it is incredible. Removing 450 gigalitres of water calculates to removing approximately $20,000,000 worth of rice production at the farm gate every year This does not include the further value added processing performed by Sunrice at its various mills.

The reported academic writes that the claims of reduced production and associated employment negatively affecting any economy are ‘rubbish’. I think the only credible information to gain from this article is of the stupidity, if not the deliberate deception, some proponents of the Basin Plan express.

The Weekly Times writes that Victoria will not be eligible for various financial grants due to its non-participation in the amended Basin Plan. While it appears that the Victorian Government is acting with some sort of concern for irrigation farmers and communities, it is more likely that due to its parlous public debt, Victoria is holding for more money before eventually agreeing to participate.
