Summary.

Government irrigation water charges to rise by 184% by the year 2029 from $14.50 to $41.45 per megalitre. This does not include local irrigation scheme charges such as those charged by Murray Irrigation.

Sophie Baldwin (C.E.O of Southern Riverina Irrigators) states among other things that “Government in Australia is well down the path of destroying irrigation in the southern basin.” and “It is quite simple really, government has an agenda to eradicate irrigation and decimate staple food production across this country.”

Sophie’s claims are consistent with the consequences of the Commonwealth Government’s actions.

The eradication of the irrigation industry is supported by the States of NSW and Victoria as well as the Commonwealth. This eradication will immeasurably negatively affect all people in these irrigation areas.

The only way to ensure the survival of the irrigation industry and the prosperity of the people in the irrigation areas is to remove the urban populations of Sydney and Melbourne from the decision making process. This can only be achieved by forming a Riverina State separate from both these populations. Management of water as a natural resource can then be resumed and used in a manner beneficial to this State’s people.
