The Greens Vote in NSW The Highest Ever

Mehreen Faruqi. Federal Senator for NSW. The Greens. Referring to the Federal election 2025.

I’ve got some incredible news. We’ve just secured the highest ever Greens vote in NSW and I’ve been re-elected to the Senate on a campaign grounded in radical politics, solidarity with Gaza, tackling the climate emergency and fighting for cost of living relief.

While counting continues around the country, l’m so proud of what we’ve achieved in NSW. We’ve reached new communities with a bold and principled message that challenges both Labor and the Liberals. Our courage to stand firm on what is right, whether it is the climate crisis, the cost of living, or the struggle for a free Palestine, clearly resonates.

We are seeing record Senate votes in Western Sydney because we are unapologetic about confronting racism and for justice and humanity. The lesson for the future is clear: when we are bold and offer a real alternative to the tired duopoly, people listen and they join us.

I look forward to the Greens holding balance of power in the Senate. We won’t be pushing Labor to be better-we will be demanding it.

Now is the time to fight for and make the transformative changes our communities are hungry for.

Because people and our planet can’t wait any longer. The only thing now standing in the way of this is Labor.

Despite our solid national vote, it is clear that we’ve lost some amazing colleagues from the party room and our fingers are crossed for our candidates and MPs in other tight seats.

Thank you to our candidates, volunteers and supporters who campaigned tirelessly and the people of NSW who have backed me and the Greens.

My opinion:

1) A qualification for Federal, State and Territory Parliament should be birth in Australia, or born of two Australian citizens at the time if born overseas.

2) The sooner The Riverina separates from NSW, the better.
