Victorian Emergency Services and Volunteers Fund to Increase Farm Rates 264%, Residential Rates 99%, in One Year
The Victorian Emergency Services and Volunteers Fund is to increase farm rates by 264% in 12 months. Residential rates are to increase by 99%.
The Victorian Government has not provided any reason for this increase, but it can be assumed that it is to cover the increased costs associated with the increased involvement of the State Government in service provision.
With Victoria’s gargantuan public debt at $156,000,000,000 as at October 2024, and budgeted to increase to $187,800,000,000 by 2027-28, there is no desire by the State government to simply book the increased costs up.
Notably, the increased government involvement has always been opposed by the Country Fire Authority.
These cost increases are another symptom of the problems caused by domination of the State by its urban majority. This majority has little, and decreasing, interest in, or benefit to, its non-urban population.
The relevant legislation passed the Victorian Legislative Council at 2 a.m. Friday 16/5/25.
